Isla Mujeres/Cancun

In January, my husband and I also traveled to Isla Mujeres and Cancun. It was a pleasant escape from the cold weather affecting Texas at the time. We flew into the Cancun airport and were fortunate to pass through customs quickly. We met some friends and went to pick up our rental. The situation became amusing when we checked in and attempted to rent a large vehicle. Unfortunately, all their large SUVs and vans were unavailable, so they ended up renting us their shuttle van! Fortunately, my husband can drive anything, and after a quick walkthrough, we headed to the ferry for Isla Mujeres.

The car ferry operates just a few times daily, so we waited nearly an hour to board. However, once aboard, we enjoyed stunning Caribbean views while sipping iced coffee from the onboard coffee bar.

After the ferry reached Isla Mujeres, we made our way to our home away from home for the upcoming days. Upon arriving at the Airbnb, two men opened the gate, allowing us our first look at the stunning estate. The house itself was gorgeous, but the sunset views as we entered were truly breathtaking.

The following morning, we went into town to enjoy a delicious brunch at Mango Cafe Isla, with eggs benedict for me and a chile relleno for my husband. After brunch, we strolled around town and made a brief stop to pick up some groceries. Then, it was time to unwind by the pool at our Airbnb.

That evening we picked up some more friends from the airport and enjoyed a wonderful sushi dinner at Samura. We had so much fun catching up and enjoying our food that I forgot all about taking pictures until dessert! It was a beautiful open air restaurant with a variety of suchi dishes to chose from.

The following day, we opted to have brunch at Mango's Isla Cafe once more because it was that good. After brunch, we made our way to Punta Sur to explore the ancient ruins. In Punta Sur, you can not only view the ancient ruins but also admire beautiful statues and breathtaking views.

The following day, we returned to Cancun and checked into Hotel Aqua. Once settled, we spent the day exploring the hotel, relaxing by the pool, and enjoying a private cabana.

The following days were spent getting pampered in the spa, lounging pool side, sampling the all inclusive food and shopping at the market. We had a local artist paint a picture of Sophie on the beach and even found a Shein boutique.

For our final meal we went to Cambalache, an Argentinian steakhouse known for its exceptional cuts of meats, fish and seafood. Everything we ordered was wonderful, but the most interesting part of the meal was the papas souffle. They were basically puffy potato chips in a potato chip bowl and they were delicious.

We enjoyed one more sunset before we headed home early the next morning.
